Makes Good Groceries

In the New Orleans vernacular, you have "made groceries" when you buy the ingredients at the store. "Good groceries" are the result of the love and effort that can transform ordinary ingredients into an outstanding dining experience.

By the time the meal is over, the term "good groceries", will imply something much more than a meal.  Some recipes include:

  • Fried Calamari
  • Southern Crab Claw Quiche
  • Jazz Fest Crawfish Bread
  • Bananas Foster
  • Turkey Andouille Gumbo

and so much more!

Down here in New Orleans, we have adopted a whole new meaning for the word "trinity."  If you don't capitalize the word, everybody down here knows you're cooking with onions, bell pepper and celery.  That's the trinity and every good cook in south Louisiana understands it is the beginnings of many a fine dish.

Depending on how many people you are feeding, the trinity is equal amounts of onion and celery and half that amount of bell pepper.

So if you're cooking with 1 cup of celery, 1 cup  of onion, you add a 1/2 cup of bell pepper, and there you have the trinity.
